Our History

1986

Our Start

A group of citizens in Halton Hills recognized the need for a service to help adults improve their reading, writing and basic math skills.

1987

First Program

ALNH began providing one-on-one tutoring for English speaking adults. Volunteers from the community were trained and matched with learners to work in a non-academic, sympathetic environment and help students overcome the barriers of low literacy skills.

2010

Name Change

LNH changed its operating name to the Adult Learning Centre

2024

Today

Now serving all Halton communities, ALNH expanded its programming to include essential communication, numeracy and digital skills, and academic upgrading for college entrance and apprenticeship.

Learning Sites

In addition to our classrooms, we are grateful to our community partners for allowing us to share space in their facilities. These partnerships allow us to offer flexible, part-time day and evening programming at a variety of locations in Halton. Our designated learning sites are safe, quiet, and comfortable to facilitate learning in the best possible environment.
